What consistently happens in my job is CHANGE and LOTS of it. I plan my trips, the catering, and what I pack based on one scenario— redeye departure, one passenger, reposition, back on Wednesday— only to have that ALL shift. There are moments when I find this frustrating, but instantly remember that this is exactly what I signed up for as a flight attendant.

Our jobs demand an incredible amount of adaptability. Sometimes, it can feel like we become so fluid with our plans and commitments, we never find consistency in anything. Gym. Relationships. Eating— all of it becomes, “Uh…..We will see.” It’s going to change anyway, right?

But, did you know that gracefully adapting to any situation thrown at you happens best when you consistently implement habits that keep you grounded, healthy, and happy? You will need to learn that, in life, there will always be a few non-negotiables. Value you yourself enough to consistently do things that are kind and caring (for yourself) regardless of what is happening in your crazy work world. You will need to learn when to say ‘yes’ and when to say ‘no.’

I bring up the subject of consistency for a couple of reasons. For one, I think it is a struggle-point for many of us in the jet-set lifestyle. We live a life of starts and stops; pauses and plays. It often feels like an uphill battle to get anything ‘off-the-ground’ except for ourselves. Regardless of the circumstances around you, you always have the choice over your attitude and the habits that you choose to create in your life. Consistency is what breeds success.

For example, with this blog, I attribute my growth as a writer and creative almost exclusively to consistency and commitment. For seven years, I have written almost every single day— with absolutely NO guarantee that I would ever be good at this, like doing it, or receive anything back in return. The commitment isn’t always pretty, but it is worth it. We get stuck in life because we want to see the payout before diving into the process. Do the work. Build the habit. Forget about who is watching, your weight goal number, or how fucking far you are from what you want. DO THE PROCESS FIRST!

The other reason I talk about consistency is because of the recent interest in CortiZen. Many of you are trying the product or are hoping to experience better sleep while traveling, manage stress-levels, and have more energy. The thing is, when you do try CortiZen, you are going have to commit to it. There is no such thing as an overnight success. Seeing real and lasting results with CortiZen, or in any area of your life, will require a daily practice; over time. Give it (whatever it is) time, and do it every day.

The celebrities we follow or influencers we admire didn’t hit it big in simply twenty-four hours. They hustled at their craft and careers for decades. We just started paying attention at their ‘Tipping Point.’ (Side note: I suggest listening to this podcast episode featuring Justin Timberlake. Let’s just agree that he is an incredible human being). The more you invest, the more you will receive. Determine what your goals are and the PROCESS that you will CONSISTENTLY take to achieve the outcome.

I have a dream job. It’s not perfect, but I have the freedom to design my days almost exactly as I wish. Before you tell me that I am lucky and that not everyone can have their own dream job, let’s get real for a second. The origin tale of how I got here included a shit ton of tears, fears, and uncertainty. In the worst of the struggle, I had a broken ankle, cashed a $400 check— which was my ENTIRE month paycheck— and wanted to hide under a rock because I didn’t think I would survive where I had landed. It felt like I had nothing. I had no idea if I would ever get my private jet career off the ground and the weight of the journey ahead seemed so impossible to conquer.

Somewhere in me, I knew that the one thing I had going was my mind and my spirit. If I could get my mindset right, I would get through the impossible. So, every morning, I would wake up at 6am, take a small jar, a piece of paper, and a pen. I would light a candle and, while sitting cross-legged on the floor in the darkness, write out every weight and crushing insecurity fighting for my attention on individual pieces of paper. I then would roll the scribbles up and stuff each piece into the jar. As I did the action, I whispered a pray of surrender— letting it all go. Every morning, I chose to let go of what I could not control in an attempt to move to what I could control; my mind. Then, I would work. I would write and write and write. I would read. I would watched Netflix. I would sleep. I would do whatever I could; even with a broken ankle. You know what happened? Nothing overnight, but everything quicker than I ever imagined.

Exactly one year later, I cashed a check that was 30 times the amount of that $400 check! 30 times! Now do that math. Flight attendants don’t make that kind of money. But they do;) I was blessed with the impossible. Honestly, all I can say is that it is because I committed to a process and believed promises that I could not even fathom at the time. I’m still blown away at the miracles in my world. I’m not anymore special or worthy. You have a story within you even more magical and amazing waiting to be unleashed into the universe. Go live it.

There is a verse in the Bible where God says, “I will bless and bless and bless….” I remember first reading this and being so humbled and moved. I often think on those words. Not just once will you be blessed, but you will be BLESSED! If you want to lose weight, if you hope for a new job, if your life is complete shit, remember that you are to be BLESSED. It’s your task to become the person ready and able to receive the blessings that are there with your name on them. What is the consistent process that you can implement now to make the journey that you need to make in the future?

Consistency is a choice, and it is structure that will build freedom and peace into your life.
