It’s possible that Joseph Mayernik has flown on more flights than I have. For 20 years, he has been capturing a story from the perspective of his airline seat— and subsequently the stories of flight attendants, other business travelers, and vacationers—by sketching what he sees. As a talented Creative Director traveling from coast-to-coast and city-to-city, this air travel sketch journey has become a compilation of the hours that many of us spend, “just wanting to get somewhere,” or simply trying to get back home. It’s a story of people, adventure, change, boredom, interest, memory, and all of those feelings, emotions, and moments that are included with the airline seat that you occupy (or if you are a flight attendant, see daily).
Joseph’s project— “Draw The Plane”— now a kickstarter campaign, has the potential to be the best coffee table book you have ever owned, but to make it that, Joe needs your help to bring this book together. He needs your help supporting his Kickstarter campaign.

On January 4th, 1997 I unexpectedly began a journey, My new bride Julie and I were on our honeymoon, and since I was an art director for a local advertising agency, and loved to draw, I brought a sketchbook with me to document all the obscure moments of the trip. It started with an single illustration of our flight from DTW to TPA.
Now, every time I am on a flight, I draw the perspective where I sit. That one illustration started a ritual that has lasted for twenty years. One illustration became two which became over 200. I have compiled these 200+ illustrations into one hardbound collection titled Draw The Plane and I’m in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to publish this book.
Another added layer is the fact that I have partnered with Make-A-Wish. If I’m able to reach my goal, I’ll be able to donate a portion of the book proceeds to my partner Make-A-Wish Western New York, to help fund their airfare costs, which is their biggest line item when granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
