I decided to put it on my list of ‘Things To Do.’  That was a very smart decision.  Otherwise, I know I would get mad at myself for being lazy, as doing nothing is unacceptable in my world.  I struggle with sitting still.  That’s one of the reasons that I look forward to flying:  I give myself permission to stop hustling with all of my entrepreneurial pursuits.

I finally put some make-up on yesterday afternoon.  And some bright magenta lipgloss.  I thought that maybe that would brighten my mood, and somehow erase the fuzzy brain feeling.  Looking in the mirror, I scrunched my face in disgust, while simultaneously scrunching my hair.  These are the days that are ‘hat days.’  I need a hat.  Hats are a way to hide a little bit from the world.  They’re the way to cover that you didn’t brush your hair, and pull attention away from tired eyes.  Hat days are essential when in the midst of ‘Time Zone Recovery.’

Time Zone Recovery is the only thing that I have been checking off my to-do list.  Time zone recovery is an involved process which tends to be all consuming, making the sufferer walk around somewhat aimlessly, unmotivated, and lethargic.  The synapses in the brain seem to not exactly be connecting, or firing, or whatever those words are that scientists use to describe ‘thinking.’  I keep thinking I want to get back to normal, and then I realize I don’t have a normal, or that I really don’t know what normal is, and after that thought, I take another nap.  That’s the only act that seems to be productive.

Tired

Barely keeping my eyes open…

I have this habit of going on juice cleanses, or to a completely raw, vegan, gluten-free diet when I get back from trips.  Call me crazy, but on my last flight of the pattern, (this one of which was 15 days) I start dreaming up the green, and red, and delicious liquid concoctions that I am going to create when I get back to Florida.  It’s like the only thing that I look forward to when coming back to Lauderdale- making my fresh juices.  I like the food in Europe, and I do eat a decent amount of eat fruits and veggies, especially in Copenhagen, where trendy juice bar cafes can be found on almost any street corner.  Also, after I get back from a trip, I kick coffee.  Cold turkey. Completely.  Surprisingly, I don’t experience headaches when I stop caffeine after weeks in Europe, but I think a lot of the fuzz I’m feeling can be attributed to missing my morning cappuccino.

Iv’e been wondering how to make returning from trips less painful, but I don’t know.  I guess the main thing is to be patient, and if you are lucky to have time to rest like me, rest!

If you are constantly faced with changing time zones, followed by times that your body needs to reset, this is what I would recommend, and this is about what I have been doing.

  • Sleep when I feel like sleeping
  • Drink water- at least 8 glasses a day
  • Juice (fruits and veggies) for every meal
  • No alcohol.  No coffee.  No candy.
  • Mostly raw and gluten-free foods
  • Gentle/Moderate Exercise:  Go on walks.  Lift weights, pilates, and cardio.
  • Read by the pool
  • Take naps
  • Watch movies
  • Take more naps
  • Talk to my besties on the phone
  • Drink kombucha (which I am now obsessed with)
  • Experiment with recipes and cooking (I made chia seed pudding yesterday.
  • Plan my next week.
  • Take another nap
  • Give myself a break from responsibilities of the blog, writing, and business.

So, I think we can wrap this blog and say that what we learned about ‘Time Zone Recovery’ is to take naps:)
